Paul has just finished talking about God's invincible purposes for those who believe. He has talked about the sure and certain reality that what God begins in someones' life; he also is able to bring to completion. In reflecting on that reality he now raises a question. That question is this; if God is for us, who can be against us? Of course Paul could have personally listed many who were against him. There were those from his Jewish heritage who despised the fact that he had become a follower of Christ, there were the Roman authorities who had him imprisoned. But for Paul even this opposition was insignificant in light of a Gods' being for him.
God is for you. How much so, you might ask? Well apparently he is so for us that he was not even willing to spare his own son in expressing his love. One seems to think that perhaps that the God that is for us is really for us. It is probably fair to say that he is longing, willing and able to graciously give us all things.
Grace and Peace from Marcus.
