Embrace Humility

"And all of you must clothe yourselves with humility in your dealing with one another, for God apposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God so that he may exalt you in due time." (1 Peter 5:5b-6)

Humility is illusive. The moment you think you have attained it, is the very moment that it slips from your fingers. And yet, humility is part of God's plan for each of us. So what is humility? Humility is a sober perception of our own place in relation to God and others. It is not the same as low self esteem, or a perceived sense of one being useless or unimportant, no, it is a realistic estimation of ourselves in light of the awesomeness of God and the value of others. So Peter says; "clothe
yourselves with humility in dealing with others." That is, remember your own frailty and weakness when relating to others and keep that in mind in your interactions with them. Be considerate, be kind,
remembering your own frailties.

This is particularly important given that God apposes pride and he gives grace to the humble. God empowers, blesses and lifts those who know who they really are and treat others with humility. So let us embrace humility and serve one another and watch our heavenly father lift us up for his praise and his glory.
