For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father."
I have had the privilege of having a wonderful dad and in more recent years I have been blessed with becoming a dad myself. Both experiences have been awesome and I thank God for them but neither of these compares I suppose to the awesome reality of being able to call the creator of the universe, "dad." What else comes close to that?
In this wonderful passage in Romans Paul makes clear that through Jesus and through our experience of the Holy Spirit we share the privilege of being able to call God dad. The thing about him of course is that he is the perfect and all powerful dad. There is nothing that is beyond him and we need not hesitate to approach him. He is good and he is wise and we can come boldly into his presence and seek his help and blessing.
My prayer for each of us is that we might know God as our dad. That we might be given a spirit of wisdom and revelation that would teach us about the "dadness" of God.
Praise be to God for his indescribable gift.
Happy Father's Day! Grace and peace from Marcus
