But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness.
(James 3:17-18)
Particularly in the context of conflict, it is all too easy to utilize "our wisdom," to figure out how it is that we are going to respond. But James calls us to embrace a "totally different kind of wisdom", a heavenly wisdom. This wisdom is not characterized by the desire for retribution, or vengeance, but instead is characterized by a concern for purity, peace, mercy and impartiality.
The outcome of sowing into a conflict heavenly wisdom is a whole world of righteousness. That is, if we sow in love, grace, purity, mercy, and concern, the harvest is often an opportunity for the grace of God to shine forth radiantly.
It should be said the opposite is true too. If we sow into conflicts according to the sinful nature, bitterness and resentment, envy and selfish ambition, we should not be surprised that the outcome is anything but favorable and God honoring.
All this to say, may the grace and power of Holy Spirit lead you into the wisdom of heaven that sows in peace.
Grace in abundance to you and yours
From Marcus
