Praying for one another

With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith. 12We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
(2 Thessalonians 1:11-12

Paul's prayers reveal God's priorities for our lives. It is good I think to look to them and him as a model as we seek to grow in prayer. So what does this prayer reveal to us?

Firstly; Paul prays that the Christians at Thessalonica might live lives worthy of their calling. What does that mean? Well it does not mean; that Paul is praying that people might somehow merit being called or invited by God to be his children. We know that that can never be the case. God's invitation, his call is always a grace gift. So what is Paul saying? He is praying that having been called, having been adopted as sons and daughters of God, the Christians in Thessalonica might live like they are God's children. That is; Paul is praying that the Christians might bear their image of their heavenly father more and more and more.

Secondly, Paul prays that this would all take place so that the Lord Jesus is given praise and glorified in us. That is; Paul prays that Christians might live as Christians in order that Jesus might look good to the world and all this is to happen because of the affect of grace in the individual's life.

So let us pray for one another. Let us pray that our lives would reflect our calling and that Jesus might be honored.

Grace and peace from Marcus
