We are to be Christ like in our Service

"Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you."

So we are to be Christ like. We are to imitate him. So far we have seen that that involves "willful descent," but what else does it involve? Some have put this verse literally into action and have embraced foot washing as "another sacrament," which is not a bad thing. But of course what Jesus is calling on his followers to do, is to embrace the life of servitude. Foot washing was the work of a slave. It was demeaning and self effacing. Yet Jesus embraced it. If it is good enough for our Lord and our teacher; how much more us.

May the Spirit help us to embrace self effacing servitude like Jesus has done on our behalf.
