"Whoever oppressors the poor shows contempt for their maker, But whoever is kind to the needy honors God." (Proverbs 14:31)
Oppression is everywhere. It seems that people are eager to make a profit and benefit themselves, even if it comes at the expense of the most vulnerable in our society. In some cases; grossly immoral behavior is justified by the most appalling and self interested arguments. But it is not to be so among us. We are Jesus' people. As Jesus' people we must remember that every member of ours and other societies bear the image and likeness of God. This means that the poor are our concern. This means that generosity to the needy is actually an act of worship. "Whoever is kind to the needy honors God." I for one, want my life to honor God, do you? If you do, well perhaps in part- one way to worship is to be kind to the needy and concerned for justice- in that we honor our maker.
