We are to be Christ like in our Patient Endurance

E-mail Print
Slaves, in reverent fear of God submit yourselves to your masters, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh. For it is commendable if you bear up under the pain of unjust suffering because you are conscious of God. But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God. To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps (1 Peter 2:18-21).

Christ Like in the Incarnation

E-mail Print
What do I mean by "incarnation?" Simply what God did in Christ by taking on human flesh. Of course it should be said; that the incarnation is a once and for all time event that can never be repeated. So what do I mean by saying that we should be Christ like in incarnation? Simply that we ought to pursue the willful descent that Christ embraced in taking on human flesh. Paul puts it like this:

In your relationships with one another, have the same attitude of mind Christ Jesus had:
Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant,

being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a human being,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death-
even death on a cross!

We are called to imitate Christ in our humility toward one another.
Are you living in a way that reflects Christ's humility in your relationships?

Created for Good Works

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- 9not by works, so that no one can boast. 10For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." (Eph. 2:8-10)

How will they Know?

E-mail Print

"Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."  How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?  And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" (Rom. 10:13-15)
